Holiday Party at the Old Dock Inn

The
Kings Park Chamber of Commerce celebrated the Annual
Holiday Party at the Historic Old Dock Inn located
at the Kings Park Bluff on the Shores of the
Nissequogue River.
The
Holiday Season is a time for celebration as well as
reflection of the events and accomplishments over
the past year. Kings Park Chamber of Commerce was
fortunate to have many important speakers over the
past year including, New York State Senator
John Flanagan, New York State Assembly Member Mike
Fitzpatrick, Suffolk County Legislators Lynne Nowick
and John Kennedy,
Smithtown Town Council Member Edward Wehrheim, Kings
Park Schools Superintendent Dr Susan Agruso, Kings
Park Civic Association President Sean Lehmann, Kings
Park In the Know Director Maureen Rossi and the
Smithtown Library Board of Directors.
These leaders represent a wide cross section of our
community and bring important information for many
issues and projects vital to the Kings Park
Community. The Kings Park Chamber of Commerce would
like to thank our elected and civic leaders for all
their hard work over the past year to our community.
Kings Park Chamber of Commerce has been advocating
for downtown revitalization of the Kings Park
Community for many years now; past years successes
include Veterans Plaza on the great lawn of the
Kings Park Branch of the Smithtown Library. This
"Town Square" of Kings Park is the center for all
Veterans Observances as well as many other
celebrations including Christmas, Chanukah and Kings
Park Day.
Several years back, The Kings Park Chamber of
Commerce was successful in the funding and the
building of the Town Of Smithtown Hike and Bike
Trail which has become the cornerstone of the
Nissequogue River State Park and valued part of our
community for both exercise, recreation and as a
training area for the Smithtown's Guide Dog
Foundation for the Blind.
This
year with the help and leadership of Smithtown Town
Council Member Edward Wehrheim, the Kings Park
Chamber of Commerce is very proud that construction
of Savatt Park has begun. This new park located just
off Main Street is a vital part of the Kings Park
Downtown Revitalization Project, which also includes
crosswalks and other measures to attenuate the speed
of vehicles on Main Street and increase the safety
our citizens.
The
Kings Park Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to
the upcoming year and will endeavor to continue to
work hard to help keep Kings Park a shining star on
Long Island, a wonderful place to do business
as well as raise your family

Suffolk County Legislator: Lynne Nowick

Suffolk County Legislator and Kings Park Chamber of
Commerce 2009 Person of the Year Honoree in
Government, Lynne Nowick addressed the Kings Park
Community at the November Meeting of the Kings Park
Chamber of Commerce. Legislator Nowick detailed her
efforts in protecting the young people of our area
from alcohol, tobacco and drug abuse. Lynne's work
in the Suffolk County Legislator has been critical
in insuring the health and safety of our children
and the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce would like to
extend our most heartfelt appreciation for her
efforts.
Sean Lehmann, President of the Kings Park Civic
Association detailed his organization’s efforts in
obtaining consistent zoning in the industrial area
along Old Northport Road and the importance of all
local groups working together whenever possible to
achieve our shared goals.
Kings Park In the Know representative Maureen Rossi
spoke on the efforts of the Kings Park In the Know
Organization in fighting drug abuse through
education and working to encourage close cooperation
with local law enforcement agencies through the
TIP-LINE 631-273-1353, which is used to report

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” -
officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was
signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles
outside the town of Versailles, France. However,
fighting ceased seven months earlier when an
armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities,
between the Allied nations and Germany went into
effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of
the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11,
1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war
to end all wars.” |

Representatives from Smithtown Library Board
addressed the members of the Kings Park Community at
the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce General Meeting.
Discussed was the Smithtown Library Modernization
Project which is expected to begin late November of
2009 and will involve the Smithtown, Nesconset,
Commack and Kings Branches of the Smithtown Library
System.
Smithtown Library Officials explained that in order
to insure that the public is well served during the
construction process, the library renovations will
be phased in according to geographical location. To
minimize the impact of library access, one branch
from Smithtown East (Smithtown and Nesconset) and
one branch from Smithtown West (Commack and Kings
Park), will be in various phases of construction,
leaving the other branch in those areas to serve the
people in the community.
Based on community recommendations, the Kings Park
Branch plans have been changed to better reflect the
historic architecture of the Kings Park Community
and better conceal air conditioning equipment from
view.
Improvements include power upgrades which will
insure that the infrastructure is in place to
support future computer upgrades, security
improvements to the Children's Section will help
keep our children safe and new architecture elements
will insure compliance with the Americans with
Disabilities Act. |
