Every Thursday This Summer!
Professors Diner Shopping Center, Kings Park, 4:00 PM

The first meeting of the Kings Park Car Rally
was an overwhelming success! Classic Cars from the 1920 to 2008 were
on display for all to reminisce about.
Professors Diner of Kings Park plans on
making this a weekly event through out the entire summer." It's a
great excuse to get out of the house and and bring back some old
memories", remarked Kevin, the owner of Professors Diner.

Above Scottie Randal's Dad went about checking
every car as if he was the chief inspector for a NASCAR event. Mr.
Randal told a story about each car as if he owned it.
Mustangs, Chevys, Corvettes and Studebakers just to mention just a
few of America's Classics.
Be sure to stop by each week! Professor Diner

5k Run
Angel's Gate
Hospice for Animals

|
|
The 5th Annual Angel's Gate
5K Run was held on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the William T. Rogers
Middle School. This extremely challenging course may have deterred
many of the less motivated runners but this did not include Kings
Park's own, Jenn Cronin, who finished 6th overall. In fact, 3 of the
top 8 times were turned in by lady athletes. Ms. Cronin is a recent
graduate of Kings Park High School and is a shining example of the
increasing athletic opportunities available for our lady athletes.
Congratulations to the Cronin
Family and our sincere thanks to the Kings Park High School Athletic
Department, The Kings Park Athletic Boosters Organization and
especially the coaches at the Kings Park School District for their
mentoring both on and off the field.

5K Run. Above left Jenn crosses the finish line in

The Angel's Gate 5k Run was
won by all but the first to cross the finish line was Franklin Diaz
of Farmingdale who was representing the Greater Long Island Running
Club with a blistering time of 17:07 which translates to a
5:31 per mile pace.

Kings
Park Town
"The Second Wave"- 1964-1969
Presented by: Kings
Park Heritage Museum
During the mid to
late 1960's Kings Park experienced a period of
unprecedented rapid growth which was fueled by the
Aerospace Industry, Defense Contractors and the Kings
Park State Hospital.
This film
documents the changes which occurred during that time
period, including the building of the Kings Park High
School, Park View Elementary School and the many housing
developments including Old Bridge Estates, Wilshire,
Crestwood, Gramercy Towne, Miller Homes, Flower Hill,
Hillside Terrace and Lawrence Manner.
Also included are
clips from the last year of RJO School when the historic
building served as both the Jr. and Sr. High School,
including Mr. Bowman's Archery Club, the Baseball
Team,Track Team and a very rare clip of William T.
Rogers, after whom the current middle school is named.

A Few of Kings Park Day's
"Not-So-Common" Vendors:
The Ultimate in Recycling!
Aluminum Can Art is the latest in recycling!
The retired self admitting "tinkerer" purchased an aluminum can
airplane at a craft fair a few years back, took a close look at the
design and thought to himself, "I can make this better". Thus the
start of the this environment friendly company. "I purchase the soda
cans from the local redemption center, the beer cans I drain
myself!"
Newest CEO Models Fashions at
Kings Park Day!
Above Left, Fort Salonga Fashion Designer and
CEO of "High Voltage Fashions" displays her designs at Kings Park
Day! High Voltage is a local start up company, the young CEO is very
optimistic about her company's future and is not deterred by a slow
economy. Pictured above right, Kings Park's newest CEO and a very
proud mom. "We are having a great day, business has been good and
everyone is having a great time!"
Scents for Gents? Candles for Men!
With names link "BBQ Ribs", "Rawhide",
"CupOJoe" and "Bonfire" this internet start up caught the eye of
more than one passerby in the commuter lot across from the firehouse
at Kings Park Day. The well spoken CEO explains that most of our
candles are purchased by women for their men, the most popular being
"Sambuca" and "Orange Liquor" which are said to have special
medicinal qualities! Scents for Gents can be located online at
www.scentsforgents.com
Fairies and Pixie Dust!
It all started when this art student moved into
her parents basement. "I had to find something to do with all the
stuff which was collected over the years." In addition to her
original fashion accessories, this pixie also creates Japanese style
pottery called "Raku", and went on to explain, "Fairy is a
good word!".

St Catherine Medical
Center Supports Local Education!

Kings Park Chamber of Commerce Member, St
Catherine Medical Center has donated $6000 to three local school
districts including Kings Park in an effort to support local
education. The money was raised by the staff of St Catherine Medical
Center. Each department's staff created a gift basket with food and
other small goodies, then auctioned off the baskets to raise the
funds. This donation is from the people of St Catherine Medical
Center to the people of Kings Park.

There is a desperate shortage of nurses in our
area, nursing is an excellent well paying career with rewards for
both community and the individual. "Helping improve local education
can only help with our recruiting efforts and make for a better
Kings Park."
Above Left, Smithtown Town Supervisor Pat
Vecchio thanks Kings Park Alumni and St Catherine Medical Center's
staff members for their contribution to our community. Pictured

Memorial Day – Kings Park
May 26, 2008
Video by Steve Weber

The theme for this year's Memorial Day in Kings Park was
"Freedom Isn't Free". Many Americans have fought and
died to insure that we have the freedoms which we all
enjoy today.
Deacon John set the tone with his opening prayer: "Give
us the strength not to be angry with our neighbors who
may disagree with us, rather let us rejoice in the many,
many freedoms you have given us." So from all the People
of Kings Park, to all our Honored Veterans, Thank You.
